My Unique Approach To New Year Resolutions
Tested and trusted
Hey friends,
You've likely heard stories about how most people ditch their New Year’s Resolutions sooner than later. They enthusiastically sign up for gym memberships in January, hit the gym a few times, and then call it quits. Or they pledge to eat healthier, stick to it for about a week, and revert to their usual habits.
A few years ago, I discovered a fun and easy way to make New Year’s Resolutions more likely to stick. And that’s simply to start them a week or two early.
The issue with New Year’s Resolutions is that we often assign too much significance to them in our collective mindset. It feels like a ‘big deal’ to make a commitment to ourselves for a change from January 1st for the entire year.
However, if we kick things off in December, it feels less of a big deal and more like a simple change we could have made anytime.
In addition to the tip above, as a solopreneur, I've found a unique approach to making New Year’s Resolutions work wonders for my business. Let me share a strategy that not only sets personal goals but aligns seamlessly with my solopreneurial journey.
1. Micro-goals magic
Rather than setting grand resolutions, I break down my goals into micro-resolutions. These bite-sized objectives are easier to track, accomplish, and contribute to the bigger picture. For instance, instead of aiming to “expand my client base,” I might resolve to “reach out to two potential clients each week.”
2. Theme your months
Assigning a theme to each month keeps my resolutions focused and manageable. January could be "Optimization Month," where I streamline processes. February might be "Content Creation Month," emphasizing my online presence. This thematic approach adds clarity and prevents overwhelm.
3. Feedback loop fridays
I've designated Fridays as Feedback Loop Days. It's a time to reflect on the week, analyze what worked and what didn't, and adjust resolutions accordingly. This agile feedback loop ensures continuous improvement and adaptability throughout the year.
These approach has helped me stay true to some of my resolutions over the years, though, I'll admit, not all of them.
What's your game plan for the upcoming year? Have you mapped it out yet?
Until next time,
